About the Virtual Conference

The conference will be held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong. The 25th Anniversary: The Future of Hong Kong brings together experts and opinion shapers to discuss how Hong Kong has remained a resilient and dynamic city despite the challenges it has faced and its prospects. The conference will provide an opportunity for participants to listen to a wide range of opinions and reflect on the successes and experiences over the past 25 years, as well as have conversations about what the future may hold, with a focus on Hong Kong’s place on the international stage.

Experiences from the First 25 Years
It has been 25 years since the return of Hong Kong. This panel will reflect upon the successes and the events that have been experienced over this period. Hong Kong will need to adapt to new trends as the world undergoes profound changes.
This panel will seek to provide insights into Hong Kong’s current transformation, drawing from the run-up to the Return in 1997 and how Hong Kong has developed from a city under British rule to an international financial powerhouse. The panel will also discuss the emerging identity that is being formed as the city is integrated with China and regenerates over the next 25 years.

Hong Kong's Future
In the past 25 years, Hong Kong has become an international financial powerhouse aided by the unique transformation of China. However, given recent challenges and the rise of competitor cities such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Singapore, there is a pressing need for Hong Kong to reinvent itself to remain relevant, competitive and fit for the future.
This panel will provide an insight into the global shifts that are taking place and how Hong Kong’s role is changing. The panel will also discuss the plans of the Central Government and how they will shape the development and the future of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond.
